Work
A mix of client projects and side projects. Some are ongoing, others are archived snapshots of past work.
- 2017.09nowStaffTraveler
A platform for airline employees to check real-time seat availability on staff travel (non-rev) flights. The community-driven app has over 1.15 million members answering around 40,000 load requests daily. When I joined, we rebuilt the platform from scratch, and I was responsible for the business logic, backend, and infrastructure.
- 2019.052025.10Baymard Institute
Baymard Institute conducts original large-scale UX research studies used by leading e-commerce companies worldwide. I developed their review tool for performing audits as well as internal tooling for constructing guidelines.
- 20192020Corona Dashboard
A public dashboard for the Dutch Ministry of Health, visualizing the COVID-19 epidemic through charts and maps. It showed alert levels, infection rates, and other key metrics to inform the public. My role in the team was front-end developer.
- 2017Bluemac
An interactive map for tracking and detecting urban traffic patterns, visualizing real-time movement data in cities. My role in the team was front-end developer.

- 2014NLN Live
A system that enables an orchestra to play a dynamic score driven by live input, like a game controller. Composers arrange musical parts in a graph structure, and during the performance all players' tablet scores update in real-time. I developed the application for the HKU Sonic Interaction Lab.
- 2014Ontspoord
An audiovisual composition created for an installation by Jelmer Noordeman, exhibited during the Ontspoord expo at The House of Ababa in Rotterdam. I was responsible for the sound design and programming. The sound and visuals are intentionally meant to be quite unpleasant.
- 2014We Need Us
A living online artwork commissioned by The Open Data Institute, powered by metadata from the citizen science project Zooniverse. I developed the sound engine and designed the audio in collaboration with artist Julie Freeman, using processed field recordings driven by a live data stream.
- 201320144D Sound
4DSOUND is a novel immersive sound system using an expansive array of speakers to position sound anywhere in three-dimensional space. I developed the panning algorithms, using vector math and matrix transformations to calculate spatial positioning of sound sources relative to the speaker grid.
- 2013Coca-Cola Cascada
A 16-meter high interactive installation with generative visuals, music, and sound. Visitors trigger behaviors within a digital waterfall using infrared cameras, controlling both graphics and audio simultaneously. I developed the sound engine, layering interactive audio over composed scores for each visual scene.
- 2013Segment
A live sampling effect using a polyphonic audio slicing algorithm. It buffers live audio and creates a slice for every key pressed, each with a different loop length, making it easy to create poly-rhythms and dense textures.
- 20132015Shreditor
A software editor for the now discontinued Shruthi-1 DIY synthesizer, giving complete overview and control over all parameters. The application mirrors the device's internal memory for quick editing and backups, with support for multiple synthesizers simultaneously. Open source under MIT license.
- 2011Dlight
An art installation by Dorette Sturm — an interactive floating circle of light that responds to the presence of visitors. I developed the electronic circuits and logic to control movement, light, and sound using Arduino microcontrollers, radio antennas, infrared sensors, and DMX-controlled LED strips.
- 20092014HKU
At HKU (Utrecht University of the Arts) I was involved in both research and teaching. I designed a server-side framework for media file analysis as part of a European research project. The system combines different processing algorithms in a cascading network. I also taught classes on music software using Max MSP.
- 20062008AMIR
At the University of Leeds we developed AMIR (Augmented Mirror), a system for tracking string instruments using a Vicon motion-capture system. The application records and visualizes instrument movement in 3D for assessing playing techniques.
- 20042005Gedoe of Gedaan
A dance performance where three dancers wore sensor-equipped suits to control audio and video in real-time. They could record video live on stage and create beats by cutting it up and manipulating it with their body movements. I developed Max MSP software for live audio manipulation and built the interactive systems used to control the projections and sound.
